Those of you looking for some fresh weekly news for the Amstrad CPC Plus and GX 4000 have come to the right place, as XeNoMoRPH has just informed us of a brand new remaster that is coming to the GX4000 and CPC Plus later today called 'Yie Ar Kung Fu Turbo'. Now if you remember the 1980's game of Yie Ar Kung-Fu, which was released in the Arcades and later the MSX, Famicom/NES, ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC, BBC Micro and Acorn Electron. Then you'll be pleased to know that this is a brand new remaster of the Amstrad version featuring much higher detail for the GX/Plus range.

It first had a limited Japanese release in October 1984, before having a wide release nationwide in January 1985 and then internationally in March 1985. Along with Karate Champ (1984), which influenced Yie-Ar Kung Fu, it is one of the games that established the basis for modern fighting games. As for the remaster however which has been done by Sylvain A_  (GGP), Cyrille Ayor61 (GGP) and Cyrille Ayor61#, it now features:

• * Faster gameplay ( Turbo )
• * CPC+ Colors
• * 4 rebuilt backgrounds ( 2 classic rebuilt and 2 new ones )
• * Invulnerability mode ( to enable or not )
• * Joypad controls

It does look like the arcade! Something you didn’t see with all the ports of this game back in the 80’s. This game and Karate Champ began the fighting game genre. Street Fighter greatly improved it in 1987 but gets unfairly hated for not being it’s sequel that revolutionized fighting games. The NES port may have looked nothing like this but does play better than most ports. Amstrad CPC is a really good system for homebrews. Arcade games like this at the time started using a 12 bit color palette. So 8 bit consoles fell short of making ports that looked like the arcade. Sega Master System sometimes did better. The PC-Engine in Japan actually did better than the arcade on these ports often. Amstrad CPC has good capabilities for porting stuff like this as well as Amiga and Atari ST.
